About Us

The opening services of Word of Life Church were held in March 1981, in a building that is now a part of Fountain Plaza, on the corner of Asbury and Chaney Roads in Dubuque.

The first pastors were Alan and Christine Bivens. Noland and Sandy Owens became the pastors in 1983. It was under their leadership that the church moved to its present location.

Loren Hirschy was called to assume the pastorate of Word of Life in 1985. He and his wife, Joy, moved their family in late November 1995, with the transition taking place in June of 1986. Pastor Hirschy is a graduate of RHEMA Bible Training Center , and is ordained through Grace Fellowship Church and RHEMA Ministerial Association International, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Pastor and Mrs. Hirschy have three grown children, all faithfully serving the Lord.

The years have witnessed a panorama of the miracles of God's grace and blessing. As a group and as individuals we have grown in His grace. We have ministered locally and worldwide. Believers from Word of Life have ministered in the Philippines, Panama, Colombia, Cuba, Brazil, Ghana, China, El Salvador, Holland, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Costa Rica, India, Russia, Bolivia, Hungary, Venezuela, Honduras, Albania, and Hong Kong, the U.K. and more. In this area and around the world we have seen people saved, healed, filed with the Holy Ghost-God quickening them spirit, soul and body. Yes, we've had our share of disappointments and heartaches, but through them all, the Lord has been faithful. The deaf have heard and the blinded have received their sight. Many have received Jesus as their Lord. Word of Lifers are witnessing today: locally, across the nation, and around the world.
