Our Core Values

Bible Teaching. Word of Life Church teaches and preaches the Bible as the Word of God to us today.

16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV)

Evangelism. Word of Life Church enthusiastically communicates the Gospel, corporately and individually; fulfilling our part of our Lord’s Great Commission.

18
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Matthew 28:18-20 (NKJV)

Biblical Love. Word of Life Church seeks to practice and promote the God-kind of love in all relationships.

4
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (NKJV)

34
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

John 13:34 (NKJV)

Biblical Ministries. Word of Life Church affirms the ministry of every believer, helping each one to identify and develop their gifts and take their place in the body of Christ. We acknowledge the necessity of receiving from the “five-fold ministry” gifts (apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor and teacher) in order to become fully equipped as believers.

7
But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift.

11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.
Ephesians 4:7; 11-16 (NKJV)

World Missions. Word of Life Church seeks not only to impact the Dubuque area, but seeks to involve itself throughout the world, through mission trips, assisting existing missionaries and developing and planting new ones.

15
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

Mark 16:35 (NKJV)

8
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Acts 1:8 (NKJV)

And to Sarah who bore you;
For I called him alone,
And blessed him and increased him.”

Isaiah 51:2 (NKJV)

Leadership. Word of Lord Church recognizes that Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church and has delegated authority to our Pastor to oversee the local congregation as we carry out His plan. This includes both the spiritual and practical matters of the organization. We receive him as such, giving appropriate honor to his leadership.

28 Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.

Acts 20:28 (NKJV)

1
The elders who are among you I exhort, I who am a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed: 2 Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; 3 nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; 4 and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.

1 Peter 5:1-4 (NKJV)

17
Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.

Hebrews 13:17 (NKJV)

The Spirit of Faith. Word of Life Church preaches a positive and triumphant message of victorious Christian living based on the finished redemptive work of Christ and the faith of each believer. Ours is a message of hope. We gladly identify ourselves as Spirit-filled, Full-Gospel Christians.

2 Corinthians 2:15 (NKJV)

22
So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. 23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. 24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.
